Reed Tye Smith 1928 ~ 2009 SALT LAKE CITY, UT- Reed Tye Smith passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from complications due to a stroke. He was born to Henry McDonough Smith and Jesse Belle Tye Smith on November 17, 1928 in Taylorsville. He was the second oldest of six children. His siblings are Lois Bradshaw, Ray Smith, Greg McDonough, Mike P. Smith, and Jesse R. Smith. He graduated from Granite High School in 1947, where he played basketball, football and baseball. After high school, he attended the University of Utah. While attending the U of U, he was drafted and served in the US Army as a Morse code radio transmitter in the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. After the war he attended the University of Montana and graduated in 1956 with a BS in Business Management. He played baseball for the U of U and the University of Montana. He was an All Conference Right Fielder in 1956. He loved sports and was an outstanding athlete. While in Montana, he met Cynthia Boyd and they were married in the spring of 1956. They were together 54 wonderful years and raised three children. His family was very special to him and he was a great father and husband. He worked for the Department of Employment Security for the state of Utah for 30 years. After retiring he played golf and more golf, mainly at his favorite course Meadowbrook. As a young man he worked at Meadowbrook, helping his mother who ran the café there for many years in the 50's and 60's. He is survived by his wife Cynthia B Smith, all his siblings, his son Brad Smith and wife Cindy, his daughter Wendy Smith, and daughter Jill Roundy and her husband Steve, grandchildren: Summer Bliss, Lindsey Rowley, Justin Smith, Jessica Roundy, Nicolas Roundy and Samantha Roundy, great-grandchildren: Remington, Rylee, and Rhett, and last and but not least his Scottie Doogie. He was a wonderful person with great integrity, who was highly respected and regarded. His family loved him immensely and he will be deeply missed by all those who knew him. A memorial will be held for friends and family at Meadowbrook Golf Course (4197 S. 1300 W.) on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in his memory to the Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah or a charity of your choice.
