Dorothy Rogers Finlinson 7/26/1918 ~ 3/4/2010 Our dear mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Dorothy White Rogers Finlinson, 91, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2010 in Delta. Born July 26, 1918, in Salt Lake City, to Eugene Butler White and Arvilla Fisher White, the fourth child in a family of 11. Graduated Granite High in 1938. Married Joy Lilburn Rogers in 1939, divorced in 1954. On December 4, 1964, married Dwain J Finlinson in Salt Lake LDS Temple and moved to Oak City. He died May 14, 2001. An active member of LDS Church and served in many auxiliary positions and always had a very strong testimony of the gospel. In her younger years, Dorothy played violin and tennis, skied, rode horses - even rode a horse in the Days of '47 Parade. In 1943, she went to Denver, worked at Gates Rubber Co. And later joined the Coast Guard as a Spar, attending boot camp in Palm Beach, Florida. Loved working in her yard, growing beautiful flowers and a weed-free lawn, refinishing furniture, reading, and was best known in her Oak City years for the hundreds of beautiful quilts she made. Enjoyed beautiful music, especially when performed by family and friends. Her family was the most important thing to her and especially loved all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and knew what was going on in each of their lives. In 1978, Dorothy and Dwain served the Lamanites in the Arizona Holbrook Mission, living in Steamboat until 1980. Survived by children: Sharon (Rad) Hoenes; Brent (Ann) Rogers; stepchildren: Vance (Helen) Finlinson, Oak City; Judy (Edd) Lyman, Blanding; Ken (Sarah) Finlinson, Fillmore; Jane (Rich) Persons, Richfield; Karl (Joyce) Finlinson, Moroni; Rex (Susan) Finlinson, and Evan Finlinson, both Oak City; sisters: Mary (Kay) Ashby, Paradise, CA; Beverly Bessendorfer, Salt Lake City; 59 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. Friends visit Wednesday evening at the Oak City Church, 7-8 p.m., and Thursday morning, 10:30-11:40 a.m. Interment will be in the Oak City Cemetery under direction of Nickle Mortuary. The family thanks the nurses and aides at the Millard County Care Center in Delta for special care they gave Dorothy.
