Memories of Irene "sue" Brinton-Walker
Irene "Sue" Brinton Walker Beloved Wife & Mother Sue Walker, age 88, passed away peacefully July 23, 2010, surrounded by family. She was born October 25, 1921 in Churchill, Idaho, to William Howard and Irene Fagg Brinton. She grew up in Holladay, Utah where she learned the art of taking care of a small farm from her father. She was very close to her mother and as result of her mother's illness, Sue became her mother's caregiver. A graduate of Granite High School, she attended the University of Utah where she graduated cum laude in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career at the Stewart Training Center for Teachers as a supervisor for teacher training. Sue met Reed L Walker, a handsome young Army First Lieutenant, and married him on September 5, 1945 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. As a young mother, Sue stayed at home to take care of her family until 1961, when she began teaching first grade at Rosecrest Elementary School. Sue has always loved and been involved with teaching children. Not only did she teach her own children valuable life's lessons, she was also the primary president of her local ward for over 15 years. She was an active member of the LDS Church and in addition to serving in the Primary, she served in the Sunday School, Relief Society, and served 15 years as an LDS Welfare Missionary. She always spoke of her pioneer heritage, and she and Reed were members of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Sue enjoyed spending time with her family and participating in various outdoor activities. Her favorite was fishing at Strawberry Reservoir, where she would always catch the biggest fish. In her retirement years, Sue and her devoted husband, Reed, were inseparable. They would go everywhere together. Even when Reed would go skiing, she would go with and wait for him in the lodge. Sue also was an avid game player and enjoyed her weekly games with nieces Annette and Shawna. Sue is survived by her husband; her children, Barbara (Rex) Frazier, Brint (Susan), Steve, and Cynthia (Gary) Prince; 22 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. Sue was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and great-grandson, Gavin Patrick Roark. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Legacy House Assisted Living Center and CareSource for their kindness and dedication in caring for Sue these last three and a half months. Funeral services will take place Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Holladay South Stake Center, 4917 So. Viewmont St. (2085 E.), Holladay.
