Richard Lee Erskine 1945 ~ 2010 Richard L. "Rick" Erskine passed away on Dec 29, 2010 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on August 14, 1945 to Dorothy Butterfield Ellis, in Salt Lake City. Rick grew up and was educated in Salt Lake, graduating from Granite High School in 1963. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17. He was Honorably discharged in 1967. In June 1967 he married Elizabeth Ann Hocking, they were later divorced. In September 1981 he married Donna Jean Vanderwood, they were later divorced. Rick worked in Real Estate for many years before beginning his career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1980. He started work as a letter carrier then moved on to other positions, including Superintendent of Postal Operations, Express Mail Manager, and Post Master of the Providence, UT post office. He retired after 25 years. A love for antique (old) car restoration was his passion, and he was often seen at car shows in Utah and Idaho. For awhile he lived in Malad, Idaho and is responsible for starting the annual car show there. Rick spent the last several years caring for his mother, whom he truly loved. Rick was a talented and unique person that left us to soon. He loved his family and enjoyed his time with each of them. He will be deeply missed. Rick is survived by his mother, Dorothy Ellis, his brother Sam Ellis, a sister Diane (James) Kirby, all of the Salt Lake area; and his children: Michael L. Erskine of Roy, UT; Kelley England (Richard) of Layton; Richard D. Erskine of Kaysville; Shauna Coleman (Alan) and Tracy Erskine of Malad, ID; and Ryan Erskine (Alisha) of Soda Springs, ID. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Edna Butterfield Giles, his stepfather Dick Ellis, and his son Joey Erskine, who passed away in August 2010. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 8 Jan., at 11:30 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church, 2430 N. Fairfield Rd., Layton, UT 84041. A brief graveside service will then be held at 3:00 p.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetary, 200 "N" St., SLC, UT. Condolences for the family may be emailed to: *****@gmail.com
