Edward Robert Keller, O.D., Ret. Lt. Col. 9/2/1925 ~ 2/15/2011 Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, Edward Robert Keller, passed away on Tuesday, February 15, 2011, in Salt Lake City, Utah.He was born on September 2, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edward E. and Nora C. Keener Keller. He graduated from Granite High School, and later the University of Utah and Los Angeles College of Optometry, where he earned his Doctorate Degree. He married JoAnn Gingell on August 25, 1955 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bob served his country for four years in Merchant Marines and sailed on freighters and oil tankers around the world as an able bodied Merchant Seaman during World War II. He also served in the U.S. Army active duty for the Korean conflict and remained in the Army Reserves Unit 328th General Hospital, Ft Douglas, Utah. Bob was fortunate to retire as a Lieutenant Colonel. Bob enjoyed his Optometry practice of 40 years and served as president of Utah Optometric Association. During his career he received several awards for his community service. During his practice he made countless life-long friends while caring for his patients. Bob "E.R.K." was a gym rat his whole life. Our family would like to thank all the friends from YMCA and Sports Mall for their support and caring during his lifetime. He loved athletics and was an avid runner, wrestler and boxer. In 1947 he played football for the University of Utah in the Pineapple Bowl. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, JoAnn Gingell Keller; his children: Sheila (Lee) Powell, Paula (John) Nero, Robert (Karla) Keller, Terri (Dennis) O'Reilly, Sheri (Rick) Weinman; his sister, Colleen (George) Anton; seven grandchildren: Mason, Madelyn, Toi, Berkeley, Kate, Logan and Payton. Funeral services for Bob will be held on Friday, February 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church, 1701 Foothill Blvd., Salt Lake City, Utah, where family and friends may call on Friday morning from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment: Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, 10600 South 1950 East, Sandy, Utah. Please leave condolences for the family at http://www.*****/****In lieu of flowers our family would like to suggest donations to be made to All Saints' Episcopal Church in Bob's name. We would also like to thank the staffs of the Utah State Veterans Nursing Home and Bristol Hospice for their compassion and care.
