Janet Moyle Nielson
1928 ~ 2011
Our beloved sister, wife and mother, Janet Moyle Nielson, died on December 7 at 4:00 a.m. surrounded by her husband and six children.
She was born to Henry & Alberta Moyle in Salt Lake City on June 17, 1928. She graduated from Granite High in 1945 and then attended the U of U for three years, where she affiliated with the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, where she met and dated her future husband, Veigh Jensen Nielson. Janet & Veigh married in 1949 in the Salt Lake Temple. They spent their early marriage in San Francisco and New York and then moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma where they resided for 32 years. She was active in the Bartlesville community, serving as president of the Needlepoint Guild and participating in the Bartlesville Pi Beta Phi sorority. Throughout her life, Janet served actively in the LDS Church Relief Society and on the Central States Mission board. She supported Veigh in his many LDS leadership callings. When Veigh retired in 1983, Janet and Veigh served in the LDS England Coventry Mission as Mission President and "Mission Mum" to many loyal and grateful missionaries between 1984 and 1987. They also served in the Dallas Texas Temple from 1990 to 1993 as Temple President and Matron. Following their mission to England, Janet & Veigh moved to their final home in Salt Lake City. Janet had a zest and zeal for life that was not outweighed by her compassion and love for others. She has enjoyed many collections throughout her life including cookbooks, dolls, limericks, books, baked goods & chocolates, and other "rare finds."
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers James and Richard (Karen), sisters Marie (Wangeman) and Virginia (Marsh). She will be greatly missed by husband, Veigh, and her children Dina (Randy) Wyatt, Kathy Richardson, Veigh (Marilyn), Henry (Diane), David, Jan (Andy) Christensen. Her 19 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren already miss their fun-loving, beautiful, sweet Nana.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 10, 12 noon, at the Eagle Gate Stake Center, 135 A Street. Friends may call Friday, December 9, 6-8:30 p.m., at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Saturday, 10-11:30 a.m., at the Stake Center. Interment at Salt Lake City Cemetery.
