Barr Eldredge Quist
1915 ~ 2011
Barr Eldredge Quist Sr. passed away December 4, 2011 in Hailey Idaho where he resided with his daughter, Laurie and family. Born in Salt Lake City on August 25, 1915 to Albert Quist and Letitia Neff Quist. He graduated from Granite High School and attended the University of Utah. On June 30, 1941 Barr married Francis (Peggy) Stevens with whom he would celebrate 66 years of marriage before her passing in 2007. Barr and Peggy's marriage brought forth three children: Barr Quist Jr. and wife, Sheila of Neptune, New Jersey; Kristine Christensen and husband Steve of Phoenix, Arizona and Laurie Roark and husband Keith of Hailey, Idaho.
Barr grew up on the family farm on Highland Drive in south Salt Lake. After starting his career at New York Life, Barr joined Union Pacific Railroad as an engineer and later joined Capson Real Estate.
Barr was a life-long learner. He loved books, music, science, politics, fishing, travel and anything Swedish. He was a top-notch bridge player and he and Peggy were quite the team. They so treasured their many friends. Barr was the consummate handyman who could fix anything. In his 80's, Barr tackled the internet and was trading stocks online just a few days before his passing ... not bad for a 96 year-old. Above all, Barr had the will and conviction to stand up for what he thought was right and he did so ... right to the end.
Barr leaves behind his children and seven grandchildren; Bert and Kevin Quist; Jennifer, Brady and Hailie Roark; Kelly Christensen and Stephanie Welch as well as six great-grandchildren: Cole and Dax Quist, Julia and Cole Christensen and Shelby and Jackson Welch.
Barr is survived by his sister, Naomi Greene of Salt Lake City, Utah and many nieces and nephews who were cherished friends and helpmates.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Francis Peggy Quist, sister Mary Anderson, and brother Albert Quist.
Barr Quist, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend leaves a profound and gaping hole that can never be filled. We do and will always miss him.
Arrangements are under the care of Wood River Chapel of Hailey, Idaho. Friends and family are invited to leave a condolence or light a candle at (http://www.*****/****.
